MOBILE PHONE & 3G CONNECTIVITY: Kölbi Mobile Phone Company offers a package of 3G Internet connectivity and several minutes of local calls for USD 22. They have a point of sales at the Luggage Claim Hall before the exit. If you are traveling solo it is a good idea to count with it, specially while you are in transit. Once you are on line send us an email so that we are in contact at all times.
ATM & CASH: Please consider that there is only on ATM in Santa Teresa, at Playa Carmen (10’ drive away from our place). You have an ATM at the Luggage Claim Hall in SJO Airport. It is always wise to take some cash out upon arrival at the airport and bring some extra with you. Except for the supermarket and some few restaurants at hotel, almost all services and shops work only with cash.
DO NOT CHANGE MONEY AT THE AIRPORT! The currency exchange office rips you off. You can arrive to Santa Teresa with US dollars and you are perfectly fine, as they are widely accepted. You can exchange once you are here at any of the two banks in towns (USD 1 = 560 Colones | MAY,2017) or at any walking-distance supermarket (around USD 1 = 550 Colones) or just forget about changing your US dollars into Colones ( USD 1 = 500 Colones).
NATURE MAY BE NOISY FOR YOU? We are surrounded by all kind of plants and animals. Monkeys, birds, roosters or even a barking dog may wake you up early in the morning. If you are sensitive to noises plus a little bit of a jet lag you may find it difficult to sleep the first nights. Consider bringing your own ear plugs or just accept it as it comes
